can you explain why the sun rises 2 mins earlier but 2 mins later with an easy diagram?

The Sun rises 2 minutes earlier and sets 2 minutes late everyday because of refraction of light from the atmosphere.
 
The diagram below shows how refraction occurs.
 
 
The light coming from the Sun near the horizon, bends towards the normal. Due to this, it appears as if the Sun is above the horizon.
This is the reason for early sunrise.
 
Similarly, when the Sun is below the horizon during sunset, its light appears to come from above the horizon causing a delay in the sunset.
 
The atmospheric refraction takes place because the layers of atmosphere have different refractive indices.
