Electricity is generated by movement of charged particles (mostly free electrons) from a point of higher potential to lower potential.
Even plants tend to release some electrons from its roots towards the soil.
So an electrode can be used to collect these charged particles and move them
from a higher potential to lower potential, thereby generating a potential difference.
However, the only problem in the process of electricity generation from plants is that the potential diffrence developed may not be as strong to power an electric device we usually use.
