Can we say that peptization and coagulation are the two EXACT opposite processes of each other?

  • Peptization can be defined as dispersing the precipitate into colloidal particles whereas Coagulation can be defined as colloidal particles join to form large sized particles.
  • Peptization means the process by which a coagulated colloid reverts to its original dispersed state. Peptization is the reverse of coagulation (the precipitate reverts to a colloidal state and is lost). It can be avoided by washing with an electrolyte that can be volatized by heating.
