Dear student,

Species is a taxonomic division that generally refers to a group of animals which are similar in structure and descent and are able to breed among themselves and produce viable offsprings. and prodiuceviable offsprings A genus is a unit of biological classification that groups organisms with common characteristics that make them distinct from organisms of other genera. A genus usually contains several or many species.

For example - A tiger belongs to genus Panther and species tigris,  whereas a lion belonging to the same genus Panthera, differs in its species which is leo.
