# Can u pls derive laplace correction (ref:waves)?

Asked by 28th February 2008, 8:10 PM

Laplace pointed out that compressions and rarefactions occur so rapidly that heat generated cannot be dissipated sufficiently rapidly.; so the conditions confirm to Adiabatic changes and Not to isothermal changes

pvy    = constant

pyvy-1 dv + vydp =0

Put bulk modulus B = - dP/(dV/v)=γP( from above equation)

Then the speed of sound

finally,v = squareroot of γp/D

γ= ratio of specific heats

v=volume

D =density of the medium
