CBSE Class 9 Answered
Can some liquids expand on cooling rather than contracting?

Expert Answer
When water is cooled, whether as a solid, liquid or gas, it contracts.
But there is one exception to this, when water reaches the freezing point and changes from liquid water to ice. At this point, the water expands rather than contracts.
As a result of this expansion the bottle breaks.
