The process in which glucose is broken down to pyruvate is called glycolysis. It takes in the cytoplasm.
The process by which pyruvate is broken down to ethanol along with the release of energy is called fermentation. It takes place in mitochondria.
Both glycolysis and fermentation are a part of the life process respiration.
