# Bullet having a mass of 10 gram and moving with a speed of 1.5 metre per second penetrates a thick wooden plank of mass 900 gram the plank was initially at rest the bullet gets embedded in the plank both andmove together determine their velocity.

let m be mass of bullet and M be mass of wooden plank
let u be initial velocity of bullet and v be the velocity after bullet is embedded on wooden plank

initial momentum :-  m×u + M×0 = 10×10-3 × 1.5 = 15×10-3  kg-m/s
Final momentum :- ( m + M )×v = 910×10-3× v   kg-m/s

By conservation of momentum :  910×10-3 × v = 15×10-3

Hence ,  v = 15/910 ≈ 0.0165 m/s = 1.65 cm/s
