ICSE Class 8 Answered
The revolutionary ideals of the French Revolution were spread by Napoleon and his armies wherever they went. After defeating the incumbent monarch, Napoleon would set up republican governments based on the French model. The sowing of revolutionary ideas led people to believe that liberty and equality is their birthright. Hence, long after the death of Napoleon and passing of the Napoleonic wars, their legacy remained in the struggle of the liberals and nationalists on one hand and the autocratic conservatives on the other. Another result of the Napoleonic wars was the imposition of French language and culture on the defeated nations. So much so that there was apprehension among the defeated nations that their own cultural heritage would be lost. The French cultural hegemony also resulted in the deepening of the sentiment of nationalism among various European communities.
