Fraction is negative in two cases:

  1. Numerator is negative, denominator is positive: {ax+b<0, cx+d>0. This gives x<-b/a and x>-c/d
  2. Numerator is positive, denominator is negative: {ax+b>0, cx+d<0. This gives x>-b/a and x<-c/d
