not slow electrons, but slow neutrons causes fission reaction when they are bombarded with uranium nucleus.
Slow neutrons means neutrons having low kinetic energy or called as thermal energy. This requirement of low energy is due to the energy level of excited state of uranium nucleus with respect to its ground state. The probabiliyt of fission reaction is more, when neutron energy is equal to the energy difference of excited state and ground state of uranium nucleus.
