When an object acquires electrical charge, it gets electrical potential.

For example if q is the charge given to a sphere of radius r , then the electrical potential U of sphere is given by

U = K × ( q / r )

where K = 1/(4πεo ) = 9 × 109 N m2 C-2 is Coulomb's constant

Let us assume 1 C charge is given to a sphere of radius 10 cm , then the potential of sphere is given as

U = 9 × 109 × (1 / 0.1 ) = 9 × 1010 Volt

It is very difficult to insulate such a high potential from surrounding materials .

Electrical sparking will take place and it is highly dangerous.
