Answer the following questions based on the graph given below.  (a) Calculate the acceleration between the points A and B. (b) Calculate the retardation between the points C and D. (c) Calculate the distance travelled till point A and from the points C to D.

a) Between points A and B; u = 10 m/s, v = 30 m/s and t = 100 s.

Thus, we have
a = (v-u)/t
a = (30 - 10)/100
a = 0.2ms-2
 
(b) Between the points C and D; u = 30 m/s, v = 5 m/s and t = 50 s.
a = (v-u) /t
a= (5 - 30)/50
a = -0.5ms-2
 
(c) Distance travelled till point A = Area of the highlighted rectangle
                                                   = 10ms-1 x 150s = 1500 m = 1.5 km
 
Distance from C to D = Area of higlighted triangle = [1/2] x time x speed
                                   = [1/2] x 25 ms-1 x 50 s = 625 m
