CBSE - X - Chemistry
An organic compound X with molecular formula C2H6O burns with blue flame to form carbon dioxide and water.On oxidation with alkaline KMnO4 X produces organic compound Y with molecular formula C2H4O2.X when heated with Y in presence of conc.H2SO4,produces sweet smelling liquid Z.Idendify X,Y and Z?
X = Ethanol
Ethanol on oxidation with alkaline KMnO4 gives ethanoic acid.
So, Y = Ethanoic acid
and when ethanol is heated in presence of H2SO4 produces ethene.
