an object is placed at a distance of 20cm from a convex lens on its principal axis its image is formed at other side of the lens at a distance of 18 cm form the lens . find the focal  length of the lens . is the image is magnified  ?

We have lens equation, (1/v) - (1/u) = 1/f ...............(1)
 
where v is lens-to-image distance, u is lens-to-object distance and f is focal length.
 
(1/18) - (1/-20) = (1/18)+(1/20) = 1/f
 
above equation gives f ≈ 9.5 cm
 
magnification :- v/u = 18/(-20) = -(9/10)
 
Hence image is diminished and inverted
