An object is kept at a distance of (i) x/2 (ii) (3/2)x from a convex lens having a focal length of magnitude x. Draw ray diagrams showing the formation of image in the two cases. What is/are the point(s) of similarity/dissimilarity between the images formed in the two cases?

The required ray diagrams for the two cases are as shown below:

Similarity:

(i) The image formed is a magnified one in both the cases.

Dissimilarity:

(i) The image formed is a virtual one in the first case and a real one in the second case.

(ii) The image formed is an erect one in the first case and an inverted one in the second case.
