An inductor 200 mH, a capacitor of 500 μF and a resistor of 10 Ω are connected in series to a 100 V, variable frequency a.c. source. Calculate the
(i) frequency at which the power factor of the circuit is unity
(ii) current amplitude at this frequency
(iii) Q-factor.

Expert Answer
Here L = 200 mH, C = 500 μF, R = 10 Ω, E = 100 V
Power factor of the circuit = 1
So Z = R
i.e. XL = XC
(ii) Current amplitude Irms
= ( Z = R)
(iii) Q-factor
