While sitting in a moving car, your position does not change with respect to the walls, roof and floor of the car, so you are at rest.

But your position from the person standing near the main gate of your apartment from where you boarded the car, changes as time passes.

So you are moving with respect to the standing person.

This means that an object can be at rest with respect to one thing and in motion with respect to some other thing at the same time.

Hence, motion is not absolute; it is relative.
