An electric lamp having coil of negligible inductance connected in series with a capacitor and an AC source is glowing with certain brightness. How does the brightness of the lamp change on reducing the (i) capacitance, and (ii) the Frequency? Justify your answer.

(a) By reducing the capacitance, the capacitive reactance begin mathsize 11px style straight X subscript straight C equals 1 over ωC end stylewill increase. So the bulb brightness will decrease.

 

(b) By reducing the frequency, the capacitive reactance will again increase. So the bulb brightness will again decrease.
