Answer:
Direction of magnetic field around a current carrying conductor is determined by right hand rule.
As per this right hand rule, if you hold the current carrying wire in right hand and thumb shows the direction of current,
then the curling of fingers indicates the direction of magnetic field. This is shown in figure.
As seen from figure, when current flows from east to west, then the direction of magnetic field above the wire is from south to north
