Maximum Range = u2/(2g) = R .................(1)
where u is muzzle speed and g is acceleration due to gravity.
if target is at a distance R/2, then required angle α for getting range R/2 is given by, ( u2 sin2α ) / (2g) = R/2 ...............(2)
By comparing eqns.(1) and (2), sin2α = sin(180-2α) = (1/2)
Hence (180-2α) = sin-1(1/2) = 30° or α = 75°
