Na6P6O18 Sodium hexametaphosphate, called as 'calgon' is added to hard water for softening.
 
The reaction is as:
 
Na6P6O18 → Na+ +  Na6P6O18 2-
 
M2+  + Na6P6O18 2- → [Na4MP6O18]2- + 2Na+ 
 
(M =Ca, Mg)
