Alpha particles contains helium ions or atoms or nucleus?if it contains helium nuclei then how this alpha particles discovered before the discovery of nucleus by rutherford?

Answer:
In 1899, Rutherford had discovered alpha and beta rays from uranium. Today we know that they are not rays, they are particles; alpha is a nucleus of helium and beta is an electron.
