In Genetic engineering, manipulation of genes is carried out. It has various advantages like:

• Diseases could be prevented by detecting people/plants/animals that are genetically prone to certain hereditary diseases, and preparing for the inevitable.

• · Animals and plants can be modified to show desirable characteristics. Genes could also be manipulated in plants for example, to destroy the specific plant pests and thus reduce various agricultural losses.
• · Genetic Engineering could increase genetic diversity, and produce more variant alleles. Thus it is possible to alter the genetics of cereals to produce various important hormones. Also superior varieties of cattle, crops etc can be produced.
