Advantages:

The empirical formula gives the ratio of elements in a compound which is helpful in calculating the percentage composition of elements in a compound.

It is also useful in the elemental analysis of an unknown sample.

Disadvantages:

The empirical formula of compound gives only the ratio of elements present in a compound.

It does not give the actual number of atoms present in that compound.

The empirical formula does not give the true identity of the compound.
