(a) Anterior lobe of pituitary gland secretes the growth hormone.

(b) Growth hormone promotes growth of the whole boy, particularly of the skeleton.

(c) Over secretion of the growth hormone in childhood will cause gigantism. In gigantism, bones grow very long; the height of the person is significantly above average.

In adults, over secretion causes acromegaly. In acromegaly the facial bones, bones of hand and feet grow. The person develops large nose and thick lips.
