(a) Layering is a method of plant propagation in which a branch of the plant is covered with some material and supplied with water to produce roots.

(b)

Mould layering Aerial layering
In this method, one of the lower branches of the plant is bent down to the ground and covered with soil some distance from the tip. In this method, stem which cannot be bent is girdled and covered with moist moss and then with polythene. Adventitious roots arise from above the girdled portion.
