(a) Layering is a method of plant propagation in which a branch of the plant is covered with some material and supplied with water to produce roots.

Mould layering | Aerial layering |
In this method, one of the lower branches of the plant is bent down to the ground and covered with soil some distance from the tip. | In this method, stem which cannot be bent is girdled and covered with moist moss and then with polythene. Adventitious roots arise from above the girdled portion. |
