Speed v of wave pulse in a stretched string, v = begin mathsize 12px style square root of T over mu end root space end style, where T is Tension in the string, μ is mass per unit length
T = 1 kg-wt = 1×10 N,  μ = 10 g/cm = 1 kg/m

Hence speed of wave in string = begin mathsize 12px style square root of 10 space equals space 3.16 space m divided by s end style
Time taken by the pulse to travel a distance 50 cm = 0.5/3.16 ≈ 0.16 s
