Expert Answer
Dear Student,
The solution to your problem is as follows:
Let the time taken by B be t days to finish a piece of work. Then A takes (t-10) days.
Therefore,
Amount of Work done in 1 day by B = 1/t
Amount of work done in 1 day by A = 1(t-10)
Amount of work done in 1 day by A and B together
Therefore, A and B can complete the task together in
But it is given that A and B together complete the task in 12 days.
But t=4 can't be the answer because in that case time taken by A will be -6 days, and time can't be negative.
Therefore, t=30.
B takes 30 days to complete the work alone
A takes 20 days to complete the work alone.
