answered-by-expert Expert Answer

  • Friction force resists the state of motion of a body by exerting a force opposite to the direction of the motion.
  • This force is generally exerted by the surface or medium in which a body moves.
  • Incase of a surface, the frictional force is strong when the surface is rough.
  • And it is less when the surface on which the moving body is in contact with is smooth.
  • So when a surface is rubbed to make it smoother, the frictional force exerted by that surface on any body which moves on it is decreased.
  • This makes the motion of that body much easier on such a smooth surface.
