To get the maximum height h reached by stone, we need to use the formula, "v2 = u2 - 2gh " ,
where v is final velocity which is zero here, u is initial velocity and g is acceleration due to gravity.

hence h = u2 /(2g) = (4.9×4.9)/(2×9.8) = 1.225 m

To get the time taken to reach maximum height h, we need to use the formula , " v = u - g t ".

since final velocity v = 0,  t = u/g = 4.9/9.8 = 0.5 s

Stone reaches the ground with same velocity as it was projected upwards,
i.e., its velocity when it reaches ground is 4.9 m/s

Downward flight time of stone is same as upward flight time ,
Hence time taken to reach ground from starting time = 0.5+0.5 = 1 s
