CBSE Class 10 Answered

(a) State two advantages of parallel circuit over series circuit.
(b) In a given ammeter a student sees that needle indicates 17 divisions in ammeter while performing an experiment to verify Ohm's law .If ammeter has 10 divisions between zero to 0.5 A,  then what is the value corresponding to 17 divisions ?

(a)
(1) if bulbs are connected in series, resistance of each bulb is getting added up and the current drawn by all the bulbs are connected in series is less than the required current. hence lightr intensity is very less. But if they are connected in parallel each bulb will draw the current as per requirement and light intensity will be normal.
(2) if bulbs are connected in series all the bulb has to glow simultaneously. we can not switch off any bulb. where as in parallel connection each bulb can be connected to a switch and we can switch on/off  bulb as per our requirement.
(3) if bulbs are connected in series and any bulb is fused, then the entire circuit is broken and other bulbs will not draw the current and will not glow.
whereas in parallel circuit, if a bulb is getting fused, it will not affect the working of other bulbs.

(b)
if 10 divisions are there between 0 and 0.5 A means, one division is equivalent to 0.05 A.
Hence 17 divisions are equivalent to 17 × 0.05 = 0.85 A
