Three point charges separated by equal finite distance means that they are placed in the vertex of equilateral triangle of side a.
 
Potential of such a charge configuration as given in the question is as given below

if the potential of this charge configuration is zero means,
 
begin mathsize 12px style fraction numerator q squared over denominator 4 pi epsilon 0 end fraction open parentheses x plus 2 x plus 2 close parentheses space equals space 0 semicolon space space end style
hence x = -(2/3)
