ICSE Class 10 Answered

a scooter is moving with an initial velocity of 90km/hr and it takes 10 secs to stop it after the 3 brakes are applied. calculate the force exerted by the brakes on the scooter if its mass along with the rider is 200kg. calculate the force exerted by the brakes if the mass is halved

answered-by-expert Expert Answer
Initial speed u = 90 km/hr = 90×(5/18) = 25 m/s

If the scooter is stopped in 10 s, reatardation a = u/t = 25/10 = 2.5 m/s2

If the mass of scooter with rider is 200 kg, force applied by breaks = 200×2.5 = 500 N.

Force applied by breaks, if the mass is half i.e., 100 kg = 100×2.5 = 250 N
