A police jeep is chasing a culprit going on a motorbike.
The motorbike crosses a turning at a speed of 72 km/h.
The jeep follows it at a speed of 90 km/h, crossing the
turning ten seconds later than the bike. Assuming that
they travel at constant speeds, how far from the turning
will the jeep catch up with the bike?

Answer:
Speed of bike = 72 km/h = 20 m/s
Speed of jeep = 90 km/hr = 25 m/s

let us take the turning point as reference point to calculate the time and distance.

let after t sec the bike has travelld, the culprit is caught by the police. Since the jeep has started 10 seconds after the bike at turning point we can write

20×t = 25×(t-10) ;
solving the above eqn. for t, we get t=50 s; hence the distance travelled by bike = 20×50 = 1000 m = 1 km;

Hence 1 km from turning point, bike is caught up with jeep
