ICSE Class 7 Answered

A physics scholar took two spring balances 'S1'′S1′ and (s2(s2 that are calibrated on the surface of the Moon and the Earth, respectively. He then weighed a body using both S1S1 and S2S2 at a given place on the surface of the earth. He determind the ratio of the readings. What is the ratio?

Let's say the mass of the body be m
then Weight oof the body on the surface of the earth will be mg
We=mg
acceleration due to gravity on moon=g/6
Hence Weight  on the surface of the moon will be
Wm=mg/6
R a t i o space o f space w e i g h t space
W subscript e over W subscript m equals fraction numerator m g over denominator m g divided by 6 end fraction
W subscript e over W subscript m equals 6
Same will be the ratio of reading on spring balance.
