A person cannot see the objects beyond 1.2 m
Thus, his far point is 1.2 m
This means he cannot see the distant objects.
Object distance (u) = ∞
Image distance (v) = - 1.2 m = - 120 cm
Thus focal length can be calculate using the lens formula,
1 over f equals 1 over v minus 1 over u
1 over f equals space fraction numerator 1 over denominator negative 120 end fraction minus 1 over infinity
rightwards double arrow space 1 over f space equals fraction numerator begin display style 1 end style over denominator begin display style negative 120 end style end fraction minus 0
T h u s comma
f space equals space minus space 120 space c m space space equals space minus 1.2 space m space
The defect called Myopia can be corrected using concave lens.

The power of lens that msut be used to correct his defect is
P equals fraction numerator 1 over denominator f left parenthesis space i n space m e t r e s right parenthesis end fraction
P equals space fraction numerator 1 over denominator negative 1.2 space m space space end fraction
P space equals negative space space 0.83 space D space
