Expert Answer
Let u be the fixed speed of travel and d be the distance between home and office.
Normal time of travel = distance / speed = d/u
If speed is reduced to 20%, then reduced speed = ( u - 0.2 u ) = 0.8 u
time of travel with reduced speed = d / ( 0.8 u )
time difference = [ d / ( 0.8 u ) ] - ( d/u ) = 0.25 × (d/u )
if time difference is 16 minute, then normal time of travel (d/u) is calculated as
0.25 × (d/u ) = 16 min
(d/u) = 64 min
