Assuming that the passenger manages to catch the bus after time t.

Then, the distance traveled by the bus during that time,
=
And the distance traveled by the passenger
Passenger will be able to catch the bus if and only if,
Total distance traveled by the passenger=the distance traveled by the bus + initial distance of separation between the two that is,

d + x1 = x2
On substitution, we get
Transposing and solving for time t,
assuming time t to be positive and non zero.
 so
The minimum speed of the passenger for catching the bus is =1.414m/s.  The person will catch the bus.
