A part of monthly hostel charge is fixed and the remaining depends on the number of days one has taken food in the mess. Yash take food for 25 days. He has to pay rupes 2200 as hostel charges where as Niyati takes food for 20 days. She has to pay rupes 1800 as hostel charges. Find the fixed change and the cost of food per day.

Let,
the fixed charge = Rs. x
the cost of food per day = Rs. y

When Yash takes food for 25 days, he has to pay Rs. 2200 as hostel charges.

Therefore we get,
 x + 25y = 2200  .........(i)

When Niyati takes food for 20 days, he has to pay Rs. 1800 as hostel charges.

Therefore we get,
 x + 20y = 1800  .........(ii)

Solve equation (i) and (ii) simultaneously, we get

x = 200 and y = 80

Therefore the fixed charge is Rs. 200 and the cost of food per day Rs. 80.
