A paraller combination of three resistors draw current of 6A from a power supply of 15V. THE two resistors are of 5ohm and 10omh,find third one.

Expert Answer
R1 = 5 Ω
R2 = 10 Ω
R3 = ?
Total current, I = 6 A
Potential difference, V = 15 V
Current flowing through a resistor of 5 ohm is
V = I1 R1
I1 = 15/ 5 = 3 A
Current flowing through a resistor of 10 ohm is
V = I2 R2
I2 = 15/ 10 = 1.5 A
Total current drawn by the combination of resistors in parallel is = 6 A
Thus, the current drawn by resistor R3 = 6 A - 4.5 A= 1.5 A
Thus, the value of the third resistor is,
R3 = V/ I3 = 15/1.5 = 10 Ω
