CBSE Class 11-science Answered
A metal wire is loaded with a force still in the elastic limit. When it is deformed, some energy gets stored in it due to work done by force. Is this energy recovered or lost?

Expert Answer
Within the elastic limit when a metal wire is loaded with force, which causes deformation. Hence, work done in deforming the object is stored as potential energy which is called as strain energy. By removing the applied load strain energy can be released from the object. Then the strain energy performs work in undeforming the metal wire and returns to its original state.
