A man weighing 70 kg carries a 30 kg box to the top of a building 20 m high . Calculate the work done by the man .

Workdone by the man is same as potential energy gained 
 
Potential energy = M × g × h
 
where M is mass of man and mass of the box that he carries = ( 70 + 30 ) kg = 100 kg
 
Potential energy = 100 × 9.8 × 20 = 19600 J = 19.6 kJ
 
Workdone by the man = 19.6 kJ
