A man short a bullet with a speed of 10 m/s which just penetrates a plank of wood . With what speed should he shoot a bullet to pass through 10 similar planks.

Retardation a provided by the plank is evaluated as below
u2 = 2×a×S ; u is the initial speed and S is the thickness of plank.
hence retardation is given by; a = 100/(2×S) = 50/S ............(1)
Speed required to shoot ten planks : u2 = 2×(50/S)×(10×S)
we get u = 10×√(10) m/s = 31.6 m/s
