A jigsaw puzzle is made of triangular pieces. Each piece is an isosceles triangle with base 8 cm and perimeter 18 cm. Find the number of pieces that can be fitted on a 16 x 9 cm rectangular board.

Area of the triangle = square root of s left parenthesis s minus a right parenthesis left parenthesis s minus b right parenthesis left parenthesis s minus c right parenthesis end root equals square root of 9 cross times 4 cross times 1 cross times 4 end root equals 12 space s q space c m

Area of the rectangular board = Length x Breadth = 16 x 9 = 144 sq cm
