  A gas is enclosed in a vessel at standard temperature. At what temperature, the volume of enclosed gas will be 1/6 of its initial volume, given that the pressure remains constant.

Let the initial volume, V1 = x 
 
Final volume, V2 = straight x over 6
 
According to the Charle's law,

straight x over 273 space equals space fraction numerator begin display style bevelled straight x over 6 end style over denominator straight T subscript 2 end fraction

straight T subscript 2 space equals space straight x over 6 cross times 273 over straight x

straight T subscript 2 space equals space 45.5 space straight K
 
       = 45.5 − 273 
 
       = -227.5 °C
 
The temperature will be −227.5°C.
