by holding the mirror at a distance of 8mm from the cavity. Calculate the magnification

Expert Answer
okay, so here since its the object (8mm) is placed between the focus (16mm) and pole, the image obtained will be virtual and erect.
so the focal length is taken to be positive as the image obtained is towards the right of the mirror and object distance as negative.
using mirror formula,
1/f =1/v + 1/u
we get v as 16mm
now magnification for mirror, m = -v/u
= -16/-8
=2
magnification is 2, image is twice the size as object
