ICSE Class 10 Answered
a crowbar of length 2.0m is used as a machine to lift a box of 100gf by placing the fulcrum ata distance 0.1m from the box calculate the velocity ratio and effort

Expert Answer
velocity ratio = effort-arm-length / load-arm-length = 1.9/0.1 = 19
( fulcrum is at 0.1 m from box, hence effort arm length = 0.1 m , since length of crow bar 2 m , (2m-0.1m) = 1.9 m is load arm length )
if ideal efficiency is 100%, then mechanical advantage equals velocity ratio, hence mechanical advantage = 19.
( it is assumed that weight of the box is 100 kgf , 100gf given in the question is too small weight )
mechanical advantage = load/effort , hence effort = load/19 = 100 kgf /19 = 5.26 kgf
