A cell of emf 8 V and internal resistance of 0.5 ohm is connected across a load of resistance (i) 15.5 ohm (ii) 11.5 ohm. Calculate the potential drop in each case.

(i) When the load resistance is 15.5 ohm

V= E - I1r
V= 8 - (0.5 × 0.5)
V= 7.75 V

(ii) When the load resistance is 11.5 ohm

V= E - I2r

V= 8 - (0.66 × 0.5)

V2 = 7.67 V
