ICSE Class 10 Answered

A car is moving along a circular track with speed. 1)what is the direction of its acceleration 2)which is the source behund acceleration 3)why does a person inside the car tend to be thrown radially outwards 4)what will happen to the car if the source behind the acceleration in part (1) is removed?

(1) direction of acceleration iw towards the centre of circular motion that is called radial rirection.
This acceleration is called centripetal acceleration

(2) on a non-banked road, source of this force is friction force between tyres of wheel and ground
On a banked road, friction force and normal force together gives this centripetal acceleration

(3) This is due to centrifugal force, which is defined as "the apparent force that is felt by an object/person  moving in a curved path
that acts outwardly away from the center of rotation" . while centripetal force is an actual force,
centrifugal force is defined as an apparent force.

The difference between centripetal and centrifugal force has to do with different 'frames of reference,' that is,
different viewpoints from which you measure something,"

Centripetal force and centrifugal force are really the exact same force, just in opposite directions because
they're experienced from different frames of reference."

If we are observing a rotating system from the outside, we see an inward centripetal force acting
to constrain the rotating body to a circular path.
However, if we are part of the rotating system, we experience an apparent centrifugal force pushing us away
from the center of the circle, even though what we are actually feeling is the inward centripetal force

(4) Without a net centripetal force, car cannot travel in circular motion. If the centripetal force is eliminated,
then the car in motion continues in motion in a straight line at constant speed.
